Instructor Bio
Ema Kuhn, Ph. D., is a Brazilian biologist who has devoted her life and career to studying and trying to understand the meaning of life on planet Earth and beyond. A distinguished Fulbright alumnus with a remarkable track record of over 25 years in researching the existence of life, Ema holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Desert Research Institute, Reno, NV, USA, is a former field researcher in NASA’s project “Astrobiology of Icy Worlds,” and was honored with a National Science Foundation Medal for her services in Antarctica. She combines her background in environmental sciences, life science, astronomy, astrobiology, and polar science to exchange knowledge with her students and the public about the existence of life on our planet and the lack of responsibility that human beings have in conserving this life. As a field professor and speaker, Ema has the urge to educate about polar region ecosystems, where she spends most of her time. She is very concerned about the actions and behavior of the predominant species on our planet regarding the present and future of all the other species living on Earth. “We don’t own this planet; we share it,” Dr. Kuhn says. She believes connecting humans to nature through experience and knowledge will build the connection for caring, awareness, and conservation.
